What this blog post is about :

Why do I teach French to children ? Teaching kids is more than a profession : it’s my passion. Their laughter, curiosity, and spontaneity make every class unique. As a teacher, I don’t just give knowledge; I learn from them and rediscover the world through their eyes. In this article, I explain why I chose to become a teacher for children and how this choice continues to inspire my work in education.

People sometimes ask me why I chose to teach French to children. Some believe teaching is just another profession, while others imagine it requires infinite patience or a special vocation.

The truth is simpler and deeper: teaching children is, for me, a passion, an adventure and a joy. I love kids.

Becoming a French teacher for children as a calling

I’ll let you in on a secret : I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was 10 years old, in fifth grade.

My teacher inspired me to teach.

He played with us, made us laugh, and above all, he loved teaching. That passion was contagious.

Teaching is not just about passing on facts. It’s about giving children the keys to open doors, inspiring curiosity, and showing them that learning is not a burden but an opportunity.

Teaching French to children is not just about explaining grammar or vocabulary. It’s about:

  • Giving them the keys to communicate ;
  • Awakening their curiosity.

Each lesson is not just a page in a textbook, it’s an invitation to think differently, to look at the world with new eyes, to ask questions. I love teaching and I can not imagine doing something else. I am very happy to help them improving the French language. I have the feeling to be useful.

As a French teacher for children, I guided a student during an online French class, where we created a tautogram using the letter V.
A student wrote a “Tautogramme” with the letter V. Two funny sentences.

Laughter, spontaneity and wonder : a few reasons why I chose to teach French to children

One of the main reasons I chose to teach children is the joy they bring into my life. In every online French class, I laugh with them, I am surprised by their remarks, and I admire their creativity. All of these make every moment unique.

A relaxed atmosphere allows for more effective learning of the French language. Laughter develops and strengthens motivation.
Well-being promotes any form of learning and even more so an online French class.

I remember one day we were reading a mystery novel and looking for the culprit. The student couldn’t find him, so I suggested eliminating the suspects. Every time he found an argument to eliminate the suspect, he jumped for joy :

“It’s not the dwarf, because he’s a small man. He couldn’t have knocked him out, otherwise he would have had to jump!”
“It can’t be his wife, because she loves him!”

Children’s spontaneity is a treasure. It breaks routine, brings lightness, and reminds me every day why I chose this profession.

Another day one of my students surprised me with a birthday message.

Thanks to this little personal message in English, we were able to discover how to say Happy Birthday in French. At French Explore School, every occasion is a good one for learning!

Teaching means learning too

It’s easy to think of the teacher as the one who knows, the one who gives, the one who holds the answers. But in reality, teaching children means being an eternal learner yourself.

Every child has a different personality, a unique way of learning, a world of their own. In trying to adapt to each one, I constantly discover new approaches, develop my creativity and invent new ways of teaching. Children push me out of my comfort zone; they force me to stay alert, flexible and open-minded.

And then there are what I like to call the “small lessons of life.” Children say things with a disarming simplicity. Their sense of justice, their honesty, their curiosity inspire me daily. They remind me that you can see the world with wonder and that even in small things; it’s magic.

One of them taught me the name of an animal from China that I didn’t know !

The long-term impact of teaching French to children

One of the most powerful aspects of teaching is the awareness of its long-term impact. Every child I meet carries immense potential and knowing that my encouragement, my words, or even a small gesture could shape their journey is both a huge responsibility and a great source of pride.

Teaching is not only about academic knowledge. It is also about confidence, curiosity, resilience and respect. The children I work with today will become tomorrow’s adults. I believe that every small act matters: a kind word, a listening ear or encouragement at the right moment can change the way a child sees themselves.

About ten years ago, a student who has become an adult sent me a message: he thanked me for helping him, for not abandoning him when he was in great difficulty, for supporting him. He was a fifth-grade student in Paris.

These messages are the greatest reward for me as a teacher.

Becoming a French teacher for children is a choice of the heart

So why did I choose to teach children?

Because they inspire me just as much as I try to inspire them.  Thanks to them I organized a design competition to choose our school logo !

The students participated in a competition to create the school logo.

Because I believe curiosity, laughter, wonder and kindness are powerful forces that can change the world.

Because teaching is not only about knowledge, it’s about helping children grow into confident, open and creative human beings.

That’s why I love being a French teacher for children online: because together, we learn, we grow, we laugh and we open doors to the future.

I am happy to get up in the morning and tell myself that I am going to have a good day with my little students ! A day full of surprises. 😁
